Keep Your Dog’s Teeth Naturally Clean

Keeping your dog’s teeth clean without having to brush them physically is not as hard as you may think. Feeding your dog fresh foods, or taking advantage of some natural remedies can keep your dog’s teeth clean and free of periodontal disease or gingivitis.

Natural foods like carrots, apples, cinnamon, coconut oil, or even pork bones can be an excellent way to keep teeth clean and is a great treat for them. These fresh foods fight off harmful bacteria.

Carrots and apples have different textures that rub against the teeth, cleaning them naturally and even have a pleasant taste to most dogs. Not only will this keep your pup’s teeth clean, but it also has many health benefits for the rest of the body, as well.  If your dog doesn’t take to these foods, try cinnamon or coconut oil mixed in with their meals to help clean the teeth as they eat. These natural spices and oils have aa pleasant taste and are sweet to dogs.

Make sure that you keep lots of fresh water for your dog, and even adding drops of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to their water is another excellent way to fight off bad breath and keep the teeth clean. Dogs have plaque and tartar build up just like we do, keeping up with their teeth will maintain their mouths free of harmful bacteria and potentially disease.

Plaque buildup and tartar can cause pain and irritation in dogs, just like humans and if there is lots of build up the best way to clean the teeth is with a dog tooth brush. Taking your dog to the vet occasionally may do the trick, but keeping up with their teeth on your own will prevent serious problems from occurring. Always check to see if your vet does anesthesia-free cleanings.
