According to Thursday’s publication of Bangor Daily News, a man who is accused of dragging a puppy behind a moving vehicle will also be facing drug charges. Brewer, Maine, resident 31-year-old Jeffrey Mayhew, allegedly dragged a six-month-old pit bull mix pup behind a truck on Tuesday.
Authorities who went to Mayhew’s residence on Wednesday found drugs and drug paraphernalia – the discovery resulted in Mayhew’s arrest and multiple drug-related charges in addition to a charge for animal cruelty. Mayhew was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
The puppy, dubbed “Phoenix,” was taken to the Bangor Humane Society. On Thursday, the shelter updated Facebook followers about the puppy, “Yes, the puppy is indeed here at the Bangor Humane Society. We have named him Phoenix. He has been aged at about 6-7 months, and he is a pit bull mix. He arrived here this morning and has been legally surrendered to us through Animal Control.”
Phoenix sustained minor injuries on his paws and chest – he is being provided with pain management and he will not be made available for adoption until he has fully recovered.
