It may not be appropriate to tell the presidential candidates to sit, stay, and roll over, but naming your dog after one of them might be the next best thing.
According to an analysis conducted by Healthy Paws Pet Insurance, people are naming their pets after this year’s top contenders in the presidential race.
There has been a 5 percent increase in cats and dogs named after Bernie Sanders since 2014, as well as a 1 percent increase in pets named after Donald Trump.
Surprisingly, however, there has been a 17 percent decrease in pets named after Hillary Clinton since 2014.
Paying homage to political figures with pets is hardly a new trend.
Last year, people were brushing their cats and putting the excess hair on their furry feline friends, posting them on social media using the hashtag #TrumpYourCat.
