Police Shoot Pit Bull After Man Arrested In His Own Apartment
Two cops shot and killed a charging pit bull during an arrest Friday morning in the Bronx, police said.
The plainclothes detectives encountered two caged pit bulls as they were investigating inside an apartment on East 162nd Street in Longwood about 1:15 a.m., cops said.
As the officers were placing a man from inside the third-floor apartment in custody, one of the pooches escaped its cage and ran at the cops, police said.
Both cops opened fire, striking and killing the dog. The other dog wasn’t harmed.
The cops were taken to a nearby hospital for ringing in the ears. One of them also injured himself while transporting the dog cage, cops said.
Two adults from the apartment, a man and woman, were placed into custody.
Charges against them are pending.
